What Is Reiki
Reiki is the ancient art of healing by touch, Reiki is a Japanese word ( REI )- ( kI ) Rei means " Universal" and Ki means " Life force energy " therefore the word Reiki means " Universal Life Force Energy " The word is pronounced "Ray-Key"
Reiki is a method of channelling life force energy to address not only physical disorders but also to heal emotional and spiritual issues. It is a practice that works on mind, body, and spirit.
Reiki is not a religion. The use of Reiki can be traced back many thousands of years, spanning many diverse cultures and civilisations. It was reintroduced in its present form ( Reiki ) in the late 19th century after many years of dedicated research by Dr Mikao Usui who was a Japanese Christian educator.
Reiki flows through every living thing, since its a universal life force, however, what makes this system healing different from others is the process of " attunements " ( also referred to as initiations ) which the student experiences in the Reiki classes. The attunements are a very ancient process for fine tuning the physical and itheric bodies to a higher vibration level and opening a purified channel in the body for the energy to pass through. Once this channel is opened through the attunement process it will remain open for the person's lifetime the Reiki energy is activated simply by the intent to use it.
During a treatment, Reiki is not sent to the healer, it is drawn through the body of the practitioner from the universal energy source. The energy moves through the purified channel with in the healer, firstly transmuting any negativity or blocks within the practitioner thus ensuring they never pass on any negativity to the recipient. As a result the healer is never "drained " during the process of giving a treatment. The more we use and work with the energy, the greater the flow and strength of the energy flow. One of the many benefits of Reiki is the ability to self heal.
Research carried out on Reiki at Stanford University, USA, using highly sensitive technology that can measure energy flows into the body, has determined that Reiki energy moves into the body of the practitioner through the head (crown chakra ) and exist through the hands. Once the energy has been activated it seems to flow in a counter clockwise spiral motion, much like the double helix in DNA.
Benefits of Reiki:
Promotes Health And Wellbeing
Helps With Pain Management
Encourages Mental Clarity
Releases Stress & Tension
Heightens Self-Awareness & Intuition
Offers Support For Substance Abuse Recovery
Because Reiki practice is balancing at every level, it can help anyone who receives a treatment or learns self-practice.
If you are tired, you’ll feel refreshed. If you are anxious, you’ll feel serene. If you are distressed, you’ll feel comforted. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, you will discover renewed clarity and purpose and these subjective changes combine with the physical changes often associated with deep relaxation, such as a slower heart rate and easier breathing.
Over the years of offering Reiki, the one common thing clients mention to me is the feeling of deep relaxation and peace after a session – and that's such a positive foundation to start the inner-healing process.
Reiki is an Holistic treatment working on the four main levels: Physical, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual and the hand positions are associated with the seven main Chakras. The Chakras are are connected to the physical organs in our body and the different layers in our Auras.

History Of Reiki:
Dr Mikao Usui was a Christian minister in japan, though Japanese he was the head of a christian boys school in japan. One day some of the students asked him if he believed in the miracles in which jesus did ( healing ect ). Being a christian minister he answered " YES " they asked him if he knew how Jesus had done this, "NO" he said.
With this he resolved to find the way in which Jesus had healed. This immediately set him on a journey of many years.Studying first at a christian schools in the U.S, for where else to learn of Jesus, but with no results. In the christian schools the method was not know.
It was suggested he study Buddhist writings since the Buddha had also healed. This took more years studying at
a monastery in the Orient.Nowhere could he find the answers. In Japan he toured many temples asking for knowledge of how the Buddha had healed. At each one the priests said they where more concerned with spiritual than physical well being. In one small monastery he found some ancient Sanskrit writings from India ( or perhaps Tibet ). After a few more years of study, he felt he had come to an understanding and that to go further required in depth meditation. He declared to the monks of his monastery his intention to fast and meditate for 21 days at a nearby mountain and that if he did not come back they should come and get his body.
he went to the mountain and gathered 21 stones with which to count the days. Each day he would throw away a stone and in this way count time. On the 20th day nothing had come as yet and he threw away the last stone saying "Well, this is it, either I get the answer tonight or I do not". In the night on the horizon he could see a ball of light coming towards him. The first instinct was to get out of the way,but realised this might just be what he was waiting for,so allowed it to hit him right in the forehead. As it struck him he was taken on journey and shown bubbles and all the colours of the rainbow in which where the symbols of Reiki, the very same symbols in the Tibetan writings he was studying but had been unable to understand. Now as he looked at them again, there was total understanding.
After returning from this experience he began back down the mountain and was ,from this moment on,able to heal. This first day alone he healed a broken toe nail, his own starvation,an ailing tooth and the Abbot's sickness which was keeping him bedridden.
These are know as the first four miracles.
He wanted to use these abilities to help others,he spent the next seven years in the beggars section in Tokyo, healing the poor and sick people there, sending them to the priest to assist finding them empoyment, and elevating them out of poverty. After the seven years he noticed familiar faces, those of people whom he'd healed long ago who where back again.Asking them, they complained that life outside beggars town was too hard and that it was much simpler to beg for a living. They had thrown away the gift of health,as it had no value, to return to the supposed comfort of the life they knew.
This threw Usui into a quandary and he returned to the monastery. From this he realised he hadn't taught gratitude along with the healing, that he'd focused on the physical ailments without dealing with the spiritual matters. The people did not understand the value of the gift he gave to them.
Dr Usui returned to the monastery for further reflection and planning, after some time in the monastery he developed precepts. In this new plan he travelled around the countryside from village to village. In each one he stood in a public place during the day holding a lit torch. When people told him he didn't need a torch in daylight, he answered he was looking for the few who are interested in improving themselves. In this way he travelled around teaching and healing, working both with the spiritual healing as well as the physical healing.
